Startups and Founders

Software development for startups: MVPs, SaaS products and mobile apps built to launch fast and scale later.

Email hello@ps3g.com

A startup needs software that proves the business before the money runs out, and that does not have to be thrown away when the business works. PS3G provides software development for startups at every stage: a solo founder with a product idea and no technical co-founder, a seed-stage team of three that needs engineering capacity, or a new venture inside an established company that has to move faster than its parent. We scope a first version you can sell, build it on a stack that will scale, and stay on as your team or step back when you hire your own.

Startups and Founders - PS3G

We have been on your side of the table. PS3G built and runs its own products: our HIPAA-compliant EHR and telehealth platform, DocVilla, used by medical practices across multiple states, and our kids’ learning app, EasyLearning4Kids, with 5-star ratings on the App Store and Google Play. We know what a first version needs and what can wait.

From idea to a product people pay for

Startup software development runs in stages, and each stage produces something you can show to users and investors.

  1. Discovery, kept short: who pays, what job the product does for them, which single workflow proves it, and what you should not rebuild. Output: a scoped backlog, a stack recommendation and a fixed-scope proposal.
  2. Clickable prototype: real screens and no backend, used to test with prospective customers before code is written.
  3. MVP: the one workflow, a sign-up and payment path, basic admin, analytics and the security basics, shipped to real users.
  4. Launch and measurement: instrumentation, a support process, store submission for mobile, and a weekly review of what users do.
  5. Iteration and scale: a monthly cadence with a dedicated team, or a hand-over to the engineers you hire.

You own the code, the repositories, the cloud accounts and the domains from day one. The same web application development and mobile app development teams that build for established companies build your first version.

MVP scoping and what to leave out

An MVP development company earns its fee by saying no. The first version should do one thing well for one kind of customer, with a path to pay. Everything else goes on a list with a trigger that would move it in.

Keep in the first version Usually later Only when a customer asks and pays
The one core workflow, end to end A native mobile app (start with a responsive web app unless the product is the phone) Single sign-on with enterprise identity providers
Sign-up, sign-in, password reset, an MFA option Role hierarchies and fine-grained permissions Multi-currency and multi-language
A payment path through hosted checkout, not a custom billing engine Custom reporting and exports Single-tenant or on-premises deployments
Basic admin, often a low-code admin panel, plus analytics, error tracking, backups, terms and privacy policy Integrations beyond the one or two the workflow needs; polished onboarding White-labeling; a public API and developer portal

What you should never cut: authentication done properly, backups, encryption, a privacy policy that matches what the product does, and enough logging to debug the first outage. These cost little at the start and a great deal after a breach or a lost database.

Stack and cost choices that will not trap you later

Founders get trapped two ways: by exotic technology nobody can hire for, and by no-code or proprietary platforms that cannot export data or handle the first large customer. We recommend well-understood tools:

  • Web: .NET or Node.js with TypeScript on the server, React or Next.js on the front end, PostgreSQL or SQL Server. One deployable application first; separate services later, when a specific part needs to scale on its own.
  • Mobile: Flutter or React Native when you need both stores from one codebase; native Swift and Kotlin when the product depends on device features.
  • Cloud: managed services on Azure or AWS (app hosting, managed database, object storage, queues) rather than servers you patch, with usage alerts from the first month.
  • Multi-tenancy, feature flags and CI/CD from the first release: little effort now, painful to retrofit.
  • AI features: hosted model APIs with cost caps, prompt and output logging and a fallback, so a viral day does not become an unpayable bill.

If you will sell to larger companies or to healthcare, we build with SOC 2 and HIPAA requirements in mind from the first version; our SOC 2 readiness and HIPAA compliance services take it from there. We also keep the artifacts investors ask for in technical due diligence: an architecture document, a dependency list, test coverage, IP assignment and a clean repository history.

Fractional CTO and ongoing team

Many founders need senior technical judgment before they can afford a full-time CTO. A fractional CTO from PS3G makes architecture and vendor decisions, sets up engineering practices, reviews contractors’ work, answers investors’ technical questions and helps you hire your first engineers. It is part of our technology consulting service, and the guide below explains what a fractional CTO does and when you need one.

After launch, most startups keep a dedicated team on a monthly cadence that scales up for a push and down between rounds, through staff augmentation or a managed team. When you hire in-house, we hand over documentation, run knowledge-transfer sessions and stay available for maintenance under defined SLAs. There is no lock-in: you have owned everything since day one.

How we work with startups

A fixed-scope project for the first version, a dedicated team or staff augmentation after launch, managed services if you want us to run the platform, and advisory for fractional CTO work. How we start: a first conversation, a short assessment and a written proposal with a fixed-scope quote. We work from Wilmington, Delaware with an India delivery center.

Ask for a fixed-scope MVP quote and a written scope you can share with investors.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer software development for startups without a technical co-founder?

Yes. We run discovery with you, write the scope in plain language, build a clickable prototype you can test with customers, and then deliver the first version with demos at every step. A fractional CTO can sit on your side of the table for architecture and vendor decisions.

What does MVP development include?

One core workflow built end to end, sign-up and sign-in, a payment path, basic admin, analytics, error tracking, backups, security basics, and a privacy policy that matches the product. It excludes the features on the later list until a customer or your own data pulls them in. You get the code, the accounts and the documentation.

How do you keep development costs under control?

By scoping the first version to a single workflow, choosing well-understood tools, using managed cloud services with usage alerts, and quoting the first version as a fixed scope so the number is known before work starts. After launch, a dedicated team scales up and down month to month, and our India delivery center keeps the cost of a full team practical.

Can you work as our fractional CTO?

Yes. A fractional CTO engagement covers architecture and stack decisions, vendor and contractor oversight, engineering practices, security and compliance planning, investor technical questions and hiring your first engineers, for a set number of hours each month. It shrinks or ends when you hire a full-time CTO.

Can you build a HIPAA-compliant or SOC 2-ready product from the start?

Yes. We run our own HIPAA-regulated platform, so the required controls (access management, encryption, audit logging, backups, vendor agreements) are built into the architecture of a first version rather than added later. SOC 2 readiness follows the same pattern: policies and evidence collection set up early so the audit is a review, not a rebuild.
