IT Staffing Services from an Engineering Firm

IT Staffing Services from an Engineering Firm

IT staffing services from an engineering firm: contract and contract-to-hire developers, QA, cloud, data and AI professionals for SMBs and enterprises.

Email hello@ps3g.com

IT staffing services from PS3G put software professionals on your team under a contract, a contract-to-hire arrangement or a project assignment. The difference from an IT staffing agency is who does the screening: every candidate is interviewed by PS3G engineers who build and run software every day, not by a recruiter working from a keyword list. We staff developers, QA engineers, cloud and DevOps engineers, data and AI professionals, BI developers, project managers and business analysts.

IT Staffing Services from an Engineering Firm - PS3G

This works for organizations of every size. A founder can bring in one contract developer to finish a first version. A growing company can take on a contract-to-hire data engineer and convert them once the budget is approved. A department inside a large organization can fill a program with screened contractors inside its own vendor and security rules. The screening is the same; the contract is scoped to your situation.

IT staffing from people who build software themselves

PS3G is an engineering firm first. We design, build, test and run software for clients, and we build and run our own products, including our HIPAA-compliant EHR and telehealth platform, DocVilla. Staffing grew out of that work: clients who had used our engineers on projects asked whether they could place the same kind of people on their own payroll or under their own management, and the answer was yes.

That origin changes how the service feels compared with tech staffing agencies. The people who screen a candidate for a .NET role have shipped ASP.NET Core applications. The people who screen a QA candidate run a testing center of excellence. When you describe the work, we understand it well enough to push back on the job description if the role as written will not find anyone, or will find the wrong person.

It also limits what we offer. We do not staff hardware technicians, help-desk agents, desktop support or office network administrators. Those are real jobs, but they are not jobs we do ourselves, so we would be guessing at the screen. Our IT staffing solutions cover software, cloud, data and AI roles only.

Roles we staff

  • Software developers. .NET and C#, Java, Python, Node.js, PHP, React, Angular, TypeScript, and mobile developers on Swift, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter. Full-stack and specialist profiles, mid-level to senior. See the developer hiring pages for stack-specific detail.
  • QA and test automation engineers. Manual testers, automation engineers (Playwright, Selenium, Appium), performance testers (JMeter, k6) and test leads.
  • Cloud and DevOps engineers. Azure, AWS and Google Cloud, CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep), containers, Kubernetes, monitoring and site reliability.
  • Data engineers. Pipelines and ETL, data warehouses and lakehouses, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks, Spark and Python.
  • AI and machine learning engineers. LLM application developers, RAG and agent builders, ML engineers, MLOps and model-evaluation specialists.
  • BI and analytics developers. Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, data modeling and dashboard development.
  • Project managers, scrum masters and business analysts. Delivery leads who have run software programs, not generic coordinators.
  • Application support engineers. Second- and third-line support for business applications, APIs and integrations (software support, not end-user device support).

If you need a role that is not on this list but sits in the same world, ask. If it sits outside software, cloud and data, we will tell you plainly and suggest you use a specialist in that field.

Contract, contract-to-hire and project-based staffing

Contract IT staffing comes in three shapes. They differ in who employs the person, how long the arrangement lasts, and what happens at the end.

Arrangement Who employs the person Duration At the end Best when
Contract PS3G. The engineer works on your team under your direction. A defined term, extended with notice. Extend, end, or convert if both sides agree. A project, a backfill, a skill you need for a season.
Contract-to-hire PS3G during the contract period; you after conversion. A trial period agreed up front, then a permanent hire. You hire the engineer directly under conversion terms in the agreement. You want a permanent hire but want to work with the person first, or the headcount approval is pending.
Project-based PS3G. Staffed to a defined deliverable rather than a seat. Tied to the project schedule. Handover and documentation, then the engagement ends. The work has a clear end and you want people rather than a fixed-scope quote.

Direct placement, where we recruit a permanent employee for you and step away, is available for the roles above when the search benefits from a technical screen. It is not our main business, and we say so rather than pretend to be an IT recruitment agency.

How it differs from staff augmentation and managed services

People use “IT staffing” and “staff augmentation” interchangeably, and in practice they overlap. The useful distinction is accountability for the work.

  • IT staffing supplies a screened person. You manage them, assign the work and own the outcome. It fits when you have a technical lead and a process and need a seat filled. This page.
  • Staff augmentation supplies PS3G engineers who remain managed by PS3G for performance, onboarding, continuity and replacement, while taking day-to-day direction from your lead. It fits when you want the hiring and retention problem handled for you. See IT staff augmentation and dedicated teams.
  • Managed services and outsourcing supply an outcome. PS3G owns delivery against an SLA or a scope, and you manage us, not the people. See IT outsourcing services and custom software development and maintenance.

Our guide to IT staffing vs staff augmentation works through the accountability, contract and compliance differences in detail. Many clients start with a contract placement and move to augmentation or a managed service once the work settles into a pattern.

How we vet

  1. Role definition. A first conversation to understand the work, the team, the stack, the seniority you actually need and the hours of overlap you require. We rewrite the job description with you if it will not find the right person.
  2. Technical screen by our own engineers. A practical conversation and, where useful, a short exercise, run by a PS3G engineer in the same discipline. We check what the candidate has built, how they reason about trade-offs and whether they can explain their own code.
  3. References. We speak to people who have worked with the candidate, and we tell you what we heard.
  4. Your interview. You meet a short list, run your own technical test if you want one, and choose. We do not assign people you have not met.
  5. Trial period. The first weeks are a formal checkpoint. If the fit is wrong, we replace the person, and the replacement terms are in the agreement rather than in a promise.

Send us the role and we will tell you whether we can fill it.

US-managed, onshore and India options, compliance and IP

Contracts, account management and escalation sit at our headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. Candidates are based in the United States or at our India delivery center, and you choose the mix. US-based contractors work in your time zone and can be onsite in the New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York and Delaware area when the role calls for it. India-based professionals keep working hours that overlap with US teams every day and handle asynchronous work outside that window.

Compliance is handled in the paperwork, not by assumption. PS3G is the employer of record for contract staff, which means payroll, taxes, benefits and employment compliance are ours, and worker-classification risk does not land on you. Contractors sign confidentiality terms that flow down from your NDA, and the agreement assigns intellectual property in their work to you. Work happens in your repositories, your cloud accounts and your tools. Where you require background screening, security training, device standards or a business associate agreement for regulated data, those are written into the engagement.

For roles inside a large organization, we work within your vendor management system, your procurement terms and your onboarding process. For a founder, the same protections come in a short agreement you can read in one sitting.

Engagement models

  • Dedicated team or staff augmentation. Named engineers, monthly, scaled up or down with notice, managed by PS3G for continuity. The closest relative of contract staffing.
  • Fixed-scope project. When the work is better bought as a deliverable than as seats, we quote it as a project.
  • Managed services. When the need is to run and support systems under a defined SLA rather than fill roles.
  • Advisory. A team-structure and capacity assessment before you decide between hiring, contracting, augmenting and outsourcing. Useful when the headcount request is still being argued over.

How we start: a first conversation, a short assessment, a written proposal. The proposal names the roles, seniority, location, hours and the monthly cost per role. We do not publish hourly rates or placement fees.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IT staffing and IT staff augmentation?

IT staffing places a screened person on your team; you manage them and own the outcome. IT staff augmentation places PS3G engineers who take daily direction from you but remain managed by PS3G for onboarding, performance, continuity and replacement. Staffing fits when you need a seat filled and have the management capacity. Augmentation fits when you want the hiring and retention problem handled as well.

How are PS3G’s IT staffing services different from an IT staffing agency?

An IT staffing agency recruits for a living and screens against a job description. PS3G builds software for a living and screens against the work. Our engineers interview every candidate in their own discipline, so a .NET role is screened by someone who ships .NET. We also limit ourselves to software, cloud, data and AI roles, because those are the ones we can judge. For hardware, help-desk or network roles, use a specialist.

Do you offer contract-to-hire for developers?

Yes. Contract-to-hire lets you work with a developer, QA engineer or data engineer for an agreed trial period while PS3G remains the employer of record, then hire them directly under conversion terms written into the agreement at the start. It suits organizations that want a permanent hire but prefer to see the person work first, or that are waiting on headcount approval.

Can you provide IT staffing in New Jersey and nearby?

Yes. PS3G is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware and has worked across New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York for over a decade. US-based contractors can work onsite, hybrid or remote in that area, and our India delivery center adds remote capacity with overlapping hours. Tell us the location requirement in the first call and the proposal will reflect it for each role.

Who handles payroll, taxes and compliance for contract staff?

PS3G does, as the employer of record. Payroll, withholding, benefits and employment compliance are our responsibility, which keeps worker-classification risk off your books. Confidentiality and intellectual-property terms are in the agreement and flow down to each contractor. Where you need background checks, security training, device standards or a business associate agreement, those are added to the engagement.

What happens if a placed engineer does not work out?

You tell us, early. The first weeks are a formal checkpoint, and replacement terms are written into the agreement. We send new profiles, you interview, and the outgoing engineer documents and hands over their work. Because the work lives in your repositories and tools from day one, a replacement is a knowledge handover rather than a scramble to recover files.
