PHP and Laravel Development Services
PHP and Laravel Development Services
PHP and Laravel development services from PS3G: custom web applications, APIs, WordPress and WooCommerce extensions, and modernization of legacy PHP systems.
PS3G provides PHP development services for the large share of the web that runs on it: custom applications in Laravel, extensions and integrations for WordPress and WooCommerce, and the legacy PHP systems that still process orders and bookings years after the original developer left. That includes a founder who wants a web product built quickly on a framework with a deep talent pool, a growing company whose e-commerce store needs custom logic its plugins cannot provide, and an IT lead inside a larger organization with a PHP application that nobody wants to touch. We build, extend, modernize and maintain, and we tell you when PHP is not the answer.

PHP and Laravel Development Services: what we build and for whom
PHP’s advantages are practical: it hosts anywhere, it has the largest pool of web developers, and Laravel gives it a modern framework with the conventions, tooling and ecosystem a growing team needs. As a PHP development company we organize the work into four groups.
- Laravel applications. Customer portals, booking and ordering systems, marketplaces, SaaS products and internal tools, with authentication, queues, scheduled jobs, notifications and an admin from the framework’s own building blocks.
- APIs in PHP. REST backends for React, mobile or partner integrations, with tokens, rate limits and OpenAPI documentation.
- WordPress and WooCommerce extensions. Custom plugins, themes, checkout logic, payment and shipping integrations and sync with inventory or CRM systems, in step with our WordPress development service.
- Legacy PHP modernization. Applications on old PHP versions, CodeIgniter, CakePHP, Zend or no framework at all, upgraded to a supported PHP release and, where it pays, moved onto Laravel in stages. The wider options are on our application modernization page.
PHP is the wrong choice for some work. A real-time, connection-heavy service belongs in Node.js; a heavy data or AI workload belongs in Python; a line-of-business system for a team whose hosting, identity and skills are all Microsoft belongs in .NET, and our .NET development group builds those. And when the request is really “we need a website with a few forms”, the answer is usually WordPress with a well-built theme, not custom PHP development.
What the service covers
Our php web development runs from architecture to maintenance. The table lists the typical work and our default tools.
| Type of work | What it looks like | Typical tools |
|---|---|---|
| Laravel development | Web applications with authentication, authorization, forms, queues, scheduling, notifications, file handling and admin panels | Laravel, Eloquent, Blade, Livewire or Inertia with React or Vue, Filament, Horizon |
| APIs | REST backends for web, mobile and partner clients; webhooks; third-party integrations | Laravel API resources, Sanctum or Passport, OpenAPI, Guzzle |
| WordPress and WooCommerce | Custom plugins and themes, checkout and product logic, payment and shipping gateways, headless setups | WordPress, WooCommerce, WP REST API, Advanced Custom Fields |
| Other frameworks | Maintenance and extension of applications in other PHP frameworks | Symfony, CodeIgniter, CakePHP, Slim |
| Modernization | PHP version upgrades, framework upgrades, dependency and security remediation, test coverage, containerization, staged move to Laravel | Composer, Rector, PHPStan, Docker, automated characterization tests |
| Hosting and operations | Deployment pipelines, managed hosting or cloud, caching, backups, monitoring | Laravel Forge or Vapor, Azure App Service, AWS, Nginx, Redis, MySQL or PostgreSQL |
| Quality | Unit, feature and browser tests, static analysis, security review | PHPUnit or Pest, Laravel Dusk, PHPStan, OWASP checks |
How we work
PHP projects are often inherited rather than started, so our process begins with a candid look at what exists.
- Assessment. For a new build, the users, the workflows, the integrations and the hosting. For an existing PHP application, the PHP version, framework, dependencies, database, test coverage, security posture and the failure history, written up as risks, quick fixes and a longer plan.
- Architecture note. Framework choice, application structure, authentication, queues and jobs, the API contract if there is a separate front end, the hosting model and the deployment pipeline.
- Walking skeleton. Authentication, one real feature end to end, tests, static analysis and a deployed staging environment before the rest of the features.
- Increments. Two-week deliveries with a demo on staging, reviewed pull requests and tests that run on every change. For modernization, characterization tests around each legacy module before it is touched.
- Launch and handover. Performance and security review, testing by our testing center of excellence, documentation, then handover or a maintenance agreement under defined SLAs that includes PHP and framework upgrades.
Team and stack choices
A lead engineer in the United States owns the architecture and your weekly conversation; PHP engineers at our India delivery center add capacity with overlapping hours; a QA engineer tests each increment. Our custom php development uses a current, supported PHP release, Laravel for new applications, Composer-managed dependencies, static analysis and a test suite from the first commit. For interfaces, Blade with Livewire keeps a small team productive; Inertia with React suits products with richer front ends. If you need engineers rather than a delivered project, our staff augmentation page explains how to hire PHP developers on a monthly basis.

Where this fits with the rest of your systems
PHP applications tend to sit at the edge of an organization: the storefront, the booking site, the customer portal, the content site. Behind them are the systems of record, which in many of the organizations we work with run on .NET or Java. Our job is to connect the two cleanly, with an API and an integration layer rather than shared database tables.
Because PS3G’s core engineering practice is .NET and the Microsoft stack, we are used to PHP and .NET sharing an estate. The common shape is a Laravel or WooCommerce front of house that calls an ASP.NET Core API for pricing, inventory, accounts or documents, with one identity provider across both where customers sign in to each. When an organization is consolidating platforms, we help decide which PHP applications are worth keeping and modernizing and which should be replaced by the .NET system, and we have done both.
For e-commerce, PHP is often the right choice precisely because WooCommerce and the surrounding ecosystem run on it; the custom work is in the extensions and integrations, which is covered in more depth under e-commerce development. For full products with a separate front end, Laravel as the API with React in front is a common and well-supported combination, and our web application development service covers that shape.
Examples by organization size
These are typical engagement shapes, not named clients.
- A founder with a web product. A fixed-scope Laravel application with authentication, subscriptions, the core workflows, an admin panel and a deployment pipeline, built on conventions that any future Laravel hire will recognize.
- A growing company with an online store. A dedicated engineer for several months, building WooCommerce extensions for custom pricing and fulfilment rules, integrating the store with the company’s inventory and accounting systems, and leaving behind tests and documentation rather than a mystery plugin.
- An IT lead inside a larger organization. A modernization program for a PHP application that runs a core customer process: assessment, PHP version upgrade, security remediation, characterization tests, containerization and a staged move to Laravel, inside the organization’s change-control rules, followed by a managed-services agreement.
Engagement models
- Fixed-scope project: a defined deliverable and price for an application, an extension, an integration or an upgrade.
- Dedicated team or staff augmentation: PHP and Laravel engineers inside your team on a monthly basis, scaled as the roadmap changes.
- Managed services: we run, patch, monitor and improve your PHP applications under defined SLAs.
- Advisory: a code and security review of an existing PHP application, or a keep-or-replace assessment.
How we start: a first conversation, a short assessment, a written proposal.
Why PS3G for PHP work
We have built software for more than a decade from Wilmington, Delaware and our India delivery center, with open-source-certified and Microsoft-certified engineers on the same teams, so PHP and .NET cooperate in our projects rather than compete. PHP is one of the stacks we have built and maintained throughout, alongside the WordPress work behind many of the sites we deliver. We build and run our own products, and our testing center of excellence is part of every delivery team.

Frequently asked questions
What do your PHP development services include?
Custom web applications and APIs in Laravel, extensions and integrations for WordPress and WooCommerce, maintenance of applications in other PHP frameworks, and the modernization of legacy PHP systems to supported versions and modern structure. Each engagement includes tests, a pipeline and documentation, and is available as a fixed-scope project, staff augmentation, a managed service or an assessment.
Why Laravel rather than another PHP framework?
Laravel has the largest ecosystem, the best tooling for queues, scheduling, authentication and testing, and the deepest hiring pool among current PHP frameworks, which keeps your application maintainable after we hand it over. Our laravel development services use it for every new application. We maintain and extend Symfony, CodeIgniter and CakePHP applications as well, and we do not force a framework change where the existing one is serving you.
Can you modernize our old PHP application without a rewrite?
Usually, yes. We upgrade the PHP version and dependencies in steps, fix the security findings, put characterization tests around the modules that matter, containerize the application, then move modules onto Laravel one at a time where there is a real reason to. The application stays live throughout. A full rewrite is the last option, and we say so when it is the right one.
Should we build on PHP or .NET?
PHP when the application lives in the WordPress or WooCommerce ecosystem, when hosting flexibility and the PHP talent pool matter, or when you already have PHP systems and skills. .NET when your identity, hosting and team are Microsoft-centered and the application is a line-of-business system. PS3G builds both, so the recommendation in our assessment is about your situation, not our preference.
How do I hire PHP developers from PS3G?
Through staff augmentation you get individual PHP or Laravel engineers or a small team on a monthly basis, working under your lead in your repositories and tools. The number of people can change as your roadmap does, and the arrangement can later convert to a managed service or a fixed-scope project. A first conversation and a short assessment come first so we match the right people to your codebase.
