WordPress Development Services

WordPress development services: custom themes and blocks, WooCommerce stores, plugin development, migrations, performance and security.

WordPress runs a large share of the web because a non-technical team can publish with it. The difference between a site that stays fast and secure for years and one that collapses under its plugins is how it was built. PS3G’s WordPress development services cover custom themes and blocks, WooCommerce stores, plugin development, integrations, migrations, performance and security, whether you are a founder launching a first site, a marketing team that publishes weekly, or an organization running several sites on one platform. Our own site and the public website of our HIPAA-compliant EHR and telehealth platform, DocVilla, both run on WordPress, so we maintain what we recommend.

WordPress done properly

“Done properly” has a specific meaning for us, and it is written into every proposal.

  • A custom theme or a lean block theme, not a multipurpose theme carrying features you will never use.
  • A short plugin list, each plugin named and justified, with a preference for well-maintained plugins over the one with the most features.
  • Custom functionality in a site-specific plugin rather than the theme, so a redesign does not break the business logic.
  • A child theme when a parent theme is used, so updates never overwrite customizations.
  • Git version control, a staging site and a deployment routine, the same as any other software project.
  • Editors trained on the block editor, with a written guide for the page types they will create most.

Page builders such as Elementor have a place: they give a marketing team visual control over layouts. We use them when that is what the team wants, and we configure them so pages stay fast and the content survives if the builder is ever removed.

What our WordPress development services include

Custom themes and blocks

Block themes built for the site editor, with your design tokens (type, color, spacing) defined once and reused everywhere. Custom Gutenberg blocks for the components your pages need, built with native React blocks or Advanced Custom Fields, so editors assemble pages from pieces that cannot be broken.

WooCommerce stores

WooCommerce website development for catalogs, subscriptions, bookings and B2B pricing, with payment gateways, tax and shipping configured and inventory synchronized with the system you already use. Larger stores, Shopify builds and custom commerce platforms are covered on our ecommerce development page.

Membership and LMS sites

Gated content, member directories, courses with lessons, quizzes, progress tracking and certificates, using MemberPress, Paid Memberships Pro, LearnDash or LifterLMS depending on the model, with recurring payments and member self-service built in.

Multilingual sites

Sites in more than one language using WPML or Polylang, with a translation workflow for editors, hreflang tags, language-aware URLs and menus, and search engines told exactly which page serves which audience.

Headless WordPress

WordPress as the content system behind a Next.js or React front end, connected through the REST API or WPGraphQL. We recommend it when performance targets are strict, when the same content feeds several front ends, or when developers want a modern front-end stack and editors want the WordPress editor they know.

Plugin development and integrations

Custom plugins when nothing suitable exists, and integrations with the systems around the site: HubSpot, Salesforce and Dynamics 365 for leads; Gravity Forms and booking tools; payment and donation processors; single sign-on with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace; and the WordPress REST API for pushing content into other applications.

Performance, security and SEO foundations

Performance. Page caching, an object cache such as Redis, a CDN, image conversion to WebP or AVIF with lazy loading, script management so third-party tags load only where needed, database and query cleanup, and hosting matched to the traffic. We measure Core Web Vitals on every template before launch and after each update.

Security. Least-privilege user roles, multi-factor sign-in for administrators, a web application firewall, login hardening, file editing and unused interfaces disabled, security headers, scheduled updates, malware scanning and tested backups. A short plugin list is itself a security control, because every plugin is code someone else maintains.

SEO. Clean theme markup with one H1 per page and sensible heading order, schema markup, an SEO plugin configured rather than installed and forgotten, XML sitemaps, canonical tags, redirect management and image alt text in the editorial workflow. The result is a site search engines can crawl and understand without a separate SEO rebuild later.

Migrations and redesigns

We move sites to WordPress from Wix, Squarespace, Drupal, Joomla, HubSpot CMS and custom systems, move WordPress sites between hosts, and replace multipurpose themes with custom ones without losing content. Every migration starts with a content inventory and a URL map, so each old address redirects to the right new one and search rankings survive the move.

When the structure of the site is the problem rather than the platform, our website redesign service handles the audit, new structure, design and rebuild with the same protection for rankings. If you are starting from nothing, the full picture of platforms and process is on our website development page.

Maintenance plans

WordPress needs attention every month: core, theme and plugin updates, PHP version changes, security patches and backups. Our website maintenance and support plans cover scheduled updates on a staging copy first, uptime monitoring, tested backups, security hardening, performance checks and a monthly allowance for small changes, with a monthly report. WordPress maintenance is available for sites we built and for sites we are taking over.

Engagement models and how we start

  • Fixed-scope project. A new site, a theme rebuild, a WooCommerce store or a migration with a defined deliverable and price.
  • Dedicated team or staff augmentation. WordPress developers working with your marketing or product team month to month.
  • Managed services. Ongoing maintenance and enhancement under defined SLAs.
  • Advisory. A site audit, a plugin and hosting review, or a second opinion on another vendor’s proposal.

How we start: a first conversation, a short assessment of your current site or requirements, and a written proposal that lists the theme, plugins, integrations and deliverables.

Why PS3G

We are a WordPress development company that also writes .NET, Java and JavaScript software, which means we treat a WordPress site as software: version-controlled, tested and documented. We run our own public sites on WordPress and live with every update we apply. More than a decade in business, a US headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware with a delivery center in India, Microsoft and open-source certified engineers and a testing center of excellence stand behind every build.

Frequently asked questions

Is WordPress secure enough for a business website?

Yes, when it is built and maintained with discipline. Most WordPress compromises come from outdated plugins, weak administrator accounts and abandoned sites. A short, maintained plugin list, multi-factor sign-in, a web application firewall, least-privilege roles, scheduled updates and tested backups remove most of that risk. We apply those controls on every build and keep them current through a maintenance plan.

Should we use a custom theme or a purchased theme?

A custom or lean block theme when the site will be maintained for years, needs to be fast, or has a design worth protecting. A purchased theme can work for a short-lived or very small site, but multipurpose themes carry code for features you do not use and slow every page. We can also build a child theme on a purchased parent when budget demands it, with the trade-offs written down.

Can you build a WooCommerce store that syncs with our inventory system?

Yes. WooCommerce exposes a REST API, and most inventory, accounting and ERP systems do too. We synchronize products, stock levels, prices and orders in the direction that keeps your system of record authoritative, with error handling and a log you can read. Where an existing connector is reliable we use it; where it is not we build the integration.

Do you offer WordPress maintenance after launch?

Yes. Our maintenance plans cover core, theme and plugin updates applied on staging first, uptime monitoring, tested backups, security hardening, performance checks, bug fixes and a monthly allowance for small changes, with a monthly report. Plans are month to month and sized to the number of sites and the amount of change you expect.

Can you migrate our site from Wix or Squarespace to WordPress?

Yes. We inventory the content and URLs, map every old address to a new one, export or rebuild the content, recreate the design in a custom theme or improve it, set up redirects and test them, then launch with monitoring. Rankings and inbound links are protected by the redirect map, and your team gains an editor it can grow with.

When does headless WordPress make sense?

When you need a very fast front end, serve the same content to a website and an app, or have front-end developers who work in React or Next.js. The trade-off is operating two systems and losing some editor conveniences such as live preview unless they are rebuilt. For most marketing sites a well-built standard WordPress site is simpler and fast enough.
