Android App Development Services
Android app development services: native Kotlin apps for phones and tablets, Play Store launch, device coverage testing, backend and maintenance options.
PS3G is an Android app development company that writes native apps in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, tests them across the phones, tablets and rugged devices your users carry, and launches them on Google Play or through managed distribution to your own fleet. Android reaches more devices and more price points than any other platform, which is both its appeal and its difficulty: a feature that works on one flagship phone has to work on a four-year-old budget handset too. Whether you are a founder serving a global audience, a growing company whose customers are mostly on Android, or an operations group standardizing on rugged scanners, we scope the engagement to the app you need.

Native Android for reach and device features
Android is the practical choice when you need reach, hardware access or control over the device itself. We build native when one of these is true; otherwise a Flutter or React Native app may serve you better, and we will say which.
- Reach across markets and budgets. If your users are outside the iPhone-heavy US consumer segment, or you serve field staff on company-issued Android devices, Android is where most of them are.
- Rugged and purpose-built hardware. Barcode scanners, handheld terminals, tablets in vehicles, kiosks and point-of-sale devices run Android. Native code gets to their scanner SDKs, serial ports and kiosk modes directly.
- Background work and system integration. Long-running sync, location tracking, Bluetooth peripherals, NFC, telephony and custom launchers are all reachable from Kotlin with the platform’s own scheduling and battery rules respected.
- Managed fleets. Android Enterprise gives you managed Google Play, zero-touch enrollment, dedicated-device (kiosk) mode and work profiles on employee phones. A native app can take full advantage of all of it.
What we build
- Consumer apps on Google Play with Play Billing subscriptions and one-time purchases handled correctly.
- Customer apps that extend your web product and share its API and sign-in.
- Workforce apps for field service, inspections, inventory and deliveries, often on rugged devices with offline sync; see enterprise mobility for that category.
- Tablet and kiosk apps in dedicated-device mode for showrooms, lobbies, clinics and factory floors.
- Healthcare apps with HIPAA-ready architecture and Health Connect integration, led by our healthcare software development team.
- Companion apps for Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi devices.
- Modernization of older Java or XML-layout Android apps to Kotlin and Compose, screen by screen, without stopping releases.
Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android Studio
New apps are written in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose for the interface and the Jetpack libraries for the rest: Navigation, ViewModel and Lifecycle for structure, Room for local data, WorkManager for deferred and periodic work, DataStore for settings, Hilt for dependency injection, and Kotlin coroutines and Flow for concurrency. Networking uses Retrofit or Ktor against a documented API.
Security follows the platform’s own tools: the Android Keystore for keys, EncryptedSharedPreferences and SQLCipher where local data is sensitive, network security configuration with certificate pinning where warranted, biometric prompts, and the Play Integrity API to detect tampered devices for apps that need it. The toolchain is Android Studio with Gradle, JUnit and Compose testing for unit and UI tests, Espresso and UI Automator for end-to-end flows, and a CI pipeline that builds a signed app bundle on every merge.
| Need | What we reach for |
|---|---|
| Offline-first data | Room, WorkManager, a sync service with conflict rules |
| Barcode and document capture | CameraX, ML Kit, vendor scanner SDKs |
| Location and maps | Fused Location Provider, Maps SDK, geofencing |
| Payments | Google Pay, Play Billing |
| Health data | Health Connect |
| Fleet management | Android Enterprise, managed configurations, kiosk mode |

Device fragmentation and testing
Thousands of Android device models, several OS versions in active use and manufacturer customizations of everything from battery management to camera behavior mean an Android app cannot be tested on one phone. We agree a device matrix with you at the start: the top models in your analytics or your fleet, the OS versions you support, the smallest and largest screens, and at least one low-memory device that will expose performance problems first.
Testing then runs on physical devices in our lab and on cloud device farms such as Firebase Test Lab for breadth. Coverage includes functional and Compose UI tests, screen rotation and multi-window, battery optimization and Doze behavior, permission flows across OS versions, slow and switching networks, accessibility with TalkBack, and automated regression on every build. Our testing center of excellence handles this for apps we build and, through our software testing service, for apps built elsewhere.
Play Store launch
Google Play has its own rules and its own rhythm. Each year brings a new target API level that existing apps must meet to keep publishing updates, the Data safety section must match what the app does, and policies on permissions, background location and sensitive data are enforced at review. We handle the Play Console setup in your organization’s name, the signed app bundle with Play App Signing, the listing, screenshots and the Data safety form, and we use the pre-launch report and staged rollouts (a percentage of users first) before a release goes to everyone.
For internal apps, we set up managed Google Play or private distribution through your device management console instead of a public listing. After launch we track the next Android release through its beta cycle and schedule the compatibility work before it ships.
Engagement models
Fixed-scope project for a defined app; a dedicated Android engineer or team placed inside your product group, month to month; managed services where we run the app, backend and releases under a defined SLA; or advisory work such as a device strategy or an architecture review. How we start: a first conversation, a short assessment, a written proposal.
Why PS3G
We publish our own Android apps: EasyLearning4Kids, our kids’ learning app with 5-star ratings on Google Play, and the patient and doctor apps of our HIPAA-compliant EHR and telehealth platform, DocVilla. We have built and maintained software for over a decade from Wilmington, Delaware and a delivery center in India, and the API, cloud and data work behind the app is done by the same company’s Microsoft and open-source certified engineers.

Frequently asked questions
Should a new Android app use Kotlin or Java?
Kotlin. It is the language Google recommends and the one Jetpack Compose and most current libraries are written for. Existing Java apps do not need a rewrite; Kotlin and Java compile together, so we add new features in Kotlin and convert older code when we touch it. The result is one codebase that modernizes over time instead of a second app.
How many devices do you test on?
Enough to cover your users, not every device ever made. We build a matrix from your analytics or your device fleet: the most common models, the OS versions you support, the extremes of screen size and at least one low-memory device. Physical devices in our lab cover the core; a cloud device farm adds breadth on each release.
Can you build for rugged devices and barcode scanners?
Yes. Handheld terminals from the usual industrial vendors run Android and expose their scanners through SDKs or keyboard-wedge modes. We integrate those, design for gloved hands and sunlight, support dedicated-device (kiosk) mode and handle the slower hardware refresh cycle those fleets have, which usually means supporting older OS versions longer.
What does Google Play require to keep an app published?
An app must target a recent Android API level, which Google raises each year; keep its Data safety section accurate; comply with permission and sensitive-data policies; and respond to policy notices within the stated window. Our maintenance agreements track these requirements so an app does not quietly lose the ability to publish updates or get removed from the store.
Do you take over Android apps built by someone else?
Yes. We begin with a build, dependency, crash and Play policy review, get the project building on a current Android Studio and Gradle, fix the issues that block releases, and then maintain or extend the app under a managed service or a dedicated team. The Play Console, signing keys and code stay in your name throughout.
